Here at Katz and Madhok Orthodontics, we understand that it can be a big moment getting your teeth straightened, and we are dedicated to making sure that you get a high-quality treatment that is right for you. We have a few options for teeth straightening methods, and are sure that one of them will be the treatment for you.
One of our orthodontist in Edgware will have an initial consultation appointment with you to determine which of these treatments is best for you. This will involve us examining your teeth, taking scans if needed, and deciding which treatment is right. We will then discuss the process with you in full, and create a treatment plan for you.
Metal braces
The first option we have are the traditional fixed metal braces that you have most likely seen before. These braces use metal wires and brackets to reposition your teeth to a straighter position over time. This treatment can be used whether you are a teenager or an adult, and can be very helpful with misalignment.
Your orthodontist in Edgware will start by doing a deep clean of your teeth to get rid of as much bacteria as possible. After this we will put metal bands around your back molars, which will help to anchor the braces. Once the brackets and bands are on, we will then attach the wires that connect the brackets together. We do this by wrapping small rubber bands around each bracket to hold the wire in place, you can choose what colour bands you have which is great. You will usually visit us every 2-4 weeks for a tightening appointment, where we will tighten the braces to encourage more movement.
Clear braces
Our second option is similar to the metal braces above, using the same bracket and wire technique. The difference is that instead of metal brackets, we use clear plastic or ceramic to create a more discreet look. This may be preferable if you have a more social lifestyle or professional career, and you don’t want to attract too much attention to your mouth whilst straightening them. This treatment is just as effective as traditional metal braces, but just look a bit more natural, which is always nice.
Invisalign
Our final option is Invisalign, which is only growing in popularity, and uses plastic aligners instead of wires and brackets. This treatment is great if you have a slightly milder case or are looking for a less invasive experience. The aligners are thin and clear, and fit snug around your teeth, meaning that they are nearly invisible to other people. Our orthodontist in Edgware will provide you with multiple aligners at a time that you can change in the comfort of your own home every couple of weeks. Each aligner is slightly different, and will gently move your teeth into a straighter position. We will have an appointment with you every few weeks to provide you with new aligners and check up on your progress. There are no surgeries involved, and is a great option if you are looking for a discreet teeth straightening treatment.
